Accessible Web design

In today’s digital world, an accessible website is more than just a nice-to-have – it has become a necessity for many companies.

A website that is accessible to everyone expands your target group & ensures that you comply with the new legal requirements. From June 2025, the accessibility of websites and apps will be mandatory for many companies in Germany and other countries.

We help you to design your website so that it is accessible to people with all kinds of disabilities and so that you are legally protected.

Why an accessible website?

Larger Target group

An accessible website ensures that it is easily accessible for people with various disabilities, especially those with visual, hearing or motor impairments. This allows you to expand your potential target group and reach more people.

Legal secured

As website accessibility will be mandatory from June 2025, you can protect yourself before you have to deal with legal consequences such as fines due to a lack of accessibility. It's more worthwhile to make your own website accessible immediately!

Better Rankings

The structured layout of the website using semantic HTML and alt texts increases user-friendliness. This leads to a longer time spent on your website. In the long term, this leads to better rankings.

Better user experience

The website will not only be more accessible for people with disabilities, but also for all other users. Better contrasts, better navigation, better performance and more improve the user experience.

How do you make a website accessible?

Semantic HTML

Your website must be clearly structured. With HTML tags such as header, h1 to h6, nav and so on, a website is also accessible for screen readers (programmes that 'read out' websites).

Alt texts

Every image needs alt texts that describe the image. This is also important for screen readers. Alt texts also help to rank better on Google & Co.

Subtitles for videos

Videos and other audiovisual content on the website must have subtitles, so that they are accessible to all persons and are understandable.

Colour contrasts

There must be an option to enhance colour contrasts so that people with visual impairments can (more easily) read your website.

Keyboard friendliness

Your website must be fully accessible with the keyboard (arrow keys, Enter, Escape, ...). No mouse should be required to navigate the website.

Consistent Navigation

Accessible navigation is clearly structured, consistent and easy to understand. It allows all users easy access to all pages and improves the usability of the entire website.

Frequently asked questions

What is an accessible website?

A accessible website is a website that is designed and developed is, that it is for all people accessible is, including people with disabilities. That means that they are designed that, that it is also by users with see-, hearing, motor or cognitive impairments can be used.

Yes, for many companies, an accessible website will be mandatory from 28 June 2025.
All public institutions and companies are affected, except for:
– B2B companies
– companies with fewer than 10 employees and
– companies with an annual turnover of 2 million euros or an annual balance sheet total of no more than 2 million euros.
Even if your company earns less than 2 million euros per year but has 10 employees, you are obliged to be accessible. The same applies if you have fewer than 10 employees but an annual turnover of over 2 million euros.
2B companies are initially excluded from the regulation, as turnover and employees do not play a role here.

Accessibility is a huge topic, but the biggest issues are:

Semantic HTML
old texts for images
subtitles for videos
clear colour contrasts
keyboard friendliness
